Usually we just lay on the dock and stare up at the sky, but this October, we’ve got some experts on site to really help us interpret the heavens above.
On October 16th, join us for a Star Party, co-hosted with The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry • OMSI, to the locals.
This date marks a New Moon, which means we'll be underneath the darkest of skies, perfect for stargazing. OMSI's resident astronomers will guide us through the night sky, pointing out and explaining the stars and celestial bodies above., and we’re crafting some very seriously good food and drink made just for the night.
The Star Party evening will look like:
6:00pm Snacks & cocktails will be served around our Beer Garden. Enjoy the evening outside or check out the Planetarium in the upstairs Den, set up up by OMSI's astronomers
7:00pm OMSI staff will share printed sky maps, offer recommendations of free astronomy cell-phone apps for up-close star viewing, and answer initial questions.
7:30pm – 8:30pm Once it's properly dark outside, the presentation will begin
8:30pm Together we'll tour the night sky via a high powered green laser pointer, while spread out on the Big Lawn
9:30pm Last call for Skip Bar
