The Suttle Lodge's "Cabin 8" Artist-in-Residence program is a scrappy, warm-hearted offering to artists of all disciplines to spend 2 weeks on a lake in the woods so they may practice and produce the art of their choice. The artists' stay culinates with our Sunday Show- a presentation of work (past, present, or future) and an opportunity to share and connect with our Central Oregon community. These casual events mostly occur bi-weekly, and are free and open to the all-ages public. The Skip bar is open for all your food and beverage needs.
FEATURED ARTIST: JACOB MILLER
A Wisconsin native, Jacob Miller left his hometown for Portland, OR the summer of 2009 via Amtrak; bringing with him only a suitcase and a Fender Jaguar guitar. After just one year in the city • he left to travel North America to study and perform music while working on various farms and ranches between travels. Time spent as a farm hand in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina shaped his devotion to the finger picking style of the region. Playing along with old recordings and locals in the surrounding areas of Appalachia, Miller delved into the inner workings of the music’s style and history.
Several jaunts and nearly 2 years later, Miller returned to the Pacific Northwest to pursue a new group. Jacob Miller and the Bridge City Crooners was formed on the porches and in the backyards of East Portland. Leading the band, Jacob also managed and wrote for the 6 piece roots/swing group for their 5 1/2 duration. After extensive touring and releasing 4 studio albums, Jacob and the Crooners disbanded August of 2017.
Miller now focuses his efforts on a different kind of songwriting and storytelling. Having a strong appreciation for minimalist pop, and firm roots planted in American traditional music • Jacob Miller crafts a sound unique to his abilities and style.
In 2019, Jacob will release and tour a debut album which displays his abilities as a performer, writer and composer. Recorded and performed entirely by Miller in a SE Portland living room turned studio • songs and ideas come together to form an album that is hard, honest and heartfelt.
